Macro photos can be very challenging yet well worth the time. The focus must be spot on as the depth of field (the area in front of and behind the focal point which also is in focus) is very small. When taking photos on a normal scale the DOF will be measured in meters. When on a macro level that is changed to millimeters.
All photographic rules apply on the macro scale only everything becomes magnitudes more sensitive. More light is needed, you are more prone to shake becoming evident, focusing becomes harder, etc…
I am working on a tutorial on the subject.. however it is proving so detailed it is trying to become a book.
